Rain falls on 'Ninja Assassin'
Korean pop star set for Wachowski bros. film
Larry and Andy Wachowski have set South Korean pop star-turned-thesp Rain, aka Jung Ji-hoon, to star in their next pic, “Ninja Assassin.”
Tentatively skedded to shoot in Berlin from March to July, the Warner Bros. pic will be produced by Joel Silver and the Wachowskis, with “V for Vendetta” helmer James McTeigue likely to direct.
Casting was unveiled at a Wednesday press conference in Seoul with William Morris Agency exec veep John Mass and Rain’s agency J.Tune Entertainment.
Rain plays a supporting role in the Wachowskis’ upcoming “Speed Racer.” He also starred in Park Chan-wook’s 2007 Berlin Competition entry “I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK.”
WMA and J.Tune have announced a special partnership to guide Rain’s emergence as an international star.
The singer’s other upcoming activities include recording a new version of ‘70s hit “Kung Fu Fighting” for this summer’s release of DreamWorks animation “Kung Fu Panda” and various music events tied to the Beijing Olympics.
